Tax Collection Information

In order to optimize financial resources, Sheriff Jerry “Peanuts” Gaines implemented an innovative, interest-bearing approach on taxes to re-invest directly back into Warren County. Previously, taxes had earned no interest monies for the county, and in the first year, Warren County received $44,000, which was promptly re-invested into the community.

As a result of Sheriff Gaines’ example, former Governor John Y. Brown introduced a bill which became law, enabling departments throughout the state to maximize interest-earning capabilities for their counties. Subsequently, millions of dollars throughout the Commonwealth have been earned, and communities statewide have been enriched and improved.

To illustrate the operational effectiveness of the tax division, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office collects among the highest percentage of taxes in the state of Kentucky.
Such a collection demonstrates both the integrity and accountability of Warren County citizens, and the exceptional efficiency of the tax division, under the leadership of Sheriff Jerry “Peanuts” Gaines.

In addition to the tax responsibilities, this division processes thousands of civil papers every year, conducts numerous vehicle inspections daily, and assists Warren County citizens and visitors in every way possible.

The Office of the Warren County Sheriff, as established in Kentucky law by KRS 134.140 and 160.500, is the collector of all state, county, school, and district taxes derived from assessed real, tangible, and intangible properties. The office is then responsible for the distribution of tax collections to the appropriate taxing authority or jurisdiction.
