In May 1999, the local School Resource Office Program was established by the Warren County Board of Education and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, under the guidance of Sheriff Gaines. Structured to foster and maintain a safe school environment for the students in Warren County Public Schools, the program also enables students to develop a positive rapport with law enforcement.
In partnership with the Warren County Board of Education, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office established a program known as the School Resource Officer Program. The S.R.O. program is a nationally accredited program involving the assignment of select, specially trained deputies to work directly in the school. These sheriff’s deputies assist school administrators in keeping the school safe. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office deploys deputy sheriffs into the schools who meet the professional certification standards of Kentucky Peace Officers. The SRO deputies receive annual training in this field, and are endowed with full law enforcement authority in Warren County, with a specialized focus on school property.
The primary responsibilities of the School Resource Officers are:
- Enforcement of state statutes
- Prevention of crime
- Protection of life and property
- Suppression of criminal activity
- Apprehension and prosecution of offenders
- Regulation of non-criminal conduct
- Enforcement of traffic and parking regulations
- Advising school personnel of potential security dangers
Warren County Sheriff’s Office is proud to have four qualified deputies, in Warren Central High School, Warren East High School, South Warren High School, and Greenwood High School.
Please contact us either at our schools or at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, for our services, or to offer input regarding those services.
Our sheriff’s deputies are placed in Warren County Schools to serve and protect our children – for although often stated, our young people truly are our premier resource.
Therefore, our school-site presence is a fundamental aspect of our mission. The investment of our deputies and our community’s time in our children’s welfare and development will deliver immeasurable dividends, and our care, intervention, and encouragement can be essential to their optimal development.
